About me
Acorn Marketing (Cumbria) Ltd was established in May 2011, when I returned to my Cumbrian roots after working for several years in London, Manchester and Liverpool.
I am a grafter. I have always been passionate about work & really love what I do. I’m constantly working & developing my knowledge of Marketing, which has enabled me to build up a successful business after facing redundancy. ‘
I love marketing, thrive on my business and am passionate about each and every one of my clients. It is not just a job for me…it makes me tick!
My other passion in life is my family and when I’m not working I’m generally being Mum. Running a business from home gives me the flexibility to do both jobs – what more could a girl want!
Meet some of my support network
Acorn Marketing is lucky to have a fabulous support network of other professional business people like me who I work with on various marketing projects. This includes other marketing consultants, social media experts, copy writers, graphic designers, web developers, photographers, videographers and printers. This ensures no project is too big or too small. If I don’t have the skills or knowledge for a specific marketing project, I generally know a “man that can.” See below for some of the great people we work with and recommend.
Keira Edwards
MARKETING SUPPORT/CONSULTANT
Keira brings to our team 20+ years of experience in communication, stakeholder engagement and partnership working.
From planning and delivering engagement in communities, with environmental charities and organisations, and within government departments to event management and facilitation. With skills in reactive and proactive media handling, digital and social media, staff communication and marketing strategies, Keira can be called upon to contribute her array of skills to any project we take on.
A mother of two, a huge fan of travel, a fair-weather paddle boarder, Keira splits her week between working for a branch of Defra and her work as a consultant.
Sara Thomson
MARKETING SUPPORT/VA
Sara joined the Acorn Marketing team in 2022 to help support me with all the marketing related tasks for clients.
Sara is a marketing specialist with a background in copywriting. She runs a marketing focused VA agency, helping marketers and small businesses free up more of their valuable time by taking on all those time-consuming tasks quickly and easily (where would I be without her!)
Outside of work she is a mother of four, has a first class masters degree in Creative Writing and has written three books – two WW2 mystery fiction and one non-fiction. Alongside this, you’ll often catch her with a crochet hook and some yarn.
Jili Allen
DESIGN
We work with lots of fab suppliers; however we use Jili Allen Creative for a lot of our design projects as she just ‘gets us’. She takes a brief, adds sparkle to it and makes it come alive.
Jili has been running her own design business for over ten years, specialising in graphics, branding and commercial design. Starting life as a Product Designer, Jili gained a first class honours degree in Consumer Product Design whilst in Edinburgh, before working in the fashion and graphic design industry in both Glasgow and Paris. Jili has worked with some fantastic brands both nationally and internationally, with work featured in Harrods, Selfridges and more.
Gwen Backhouse
VIRTUAL ASSISTANT
Gwen is my go to when I need help with any admin jobs – fast and efficient which is a great help to the team.
Gwen has been running her Virtual Assistant business Curlew Secretarial Solutions for seven years. Gwen has over 21 years of experience working in the admin industry and has won national awards for her virtual assistant business. Gwen and the team offer a huge range of secretarial and admin services from their office in the small market town of Brampton in Cumbria, and work with businesses across the UK and Europe.
Chris Birkett
PHOTOGRAPHER
We use Birkett Photography for many projects, from full photo shoots to portraits and product shots (even Lisa’s wedding photos!).
Christopher Birkett developed an interest in photography from a very young age. He took this interest further by studying various photographic courses. He has received several gold awards for his photography, which are images deemed to be of the highest quality.

Sarah McNeil
COPY WRITER
Sarah began working with us in 2022, helping us write the words for content on websites, email and promotional material.
Sarah is a freelance copywriter with a background in conflict resolution. Based in Cockermouth, she uses her skills to help small and growing businesses market themselves with confidence. Sarah has dabbled in stand-up comedy and is also a keen creative writer with one novel under her belt.
